If you’ve ever looked at a family photo online and thought “there’s no way my kids would do that”
Welcome, you’re my kind of people.
This blog is your gentle behind‑the‑scenes peek into what a family session with me actually looks like.
Spoiler alert: it’s not stiff, it’s not silent, and no one is expected to sit still and smile on command (including adults).
First things first: your kids don’t need to be “well behaved”
I photograph families the way they are, wiggly, loud, shy, wild, cuddly, curious, emotional, and everything in between.
If your child needs a moment, we take it. If they want to run, we follow.
If they decide halfway through that I’m actually very funny, that’s when the magic starts.
As a mum myself, I get it. Big feelings happen. Snacks are sacred.
And sometimes the best photos come right after a meltdown has passed and everyone exhales together.
My sessions are gently guided, not posed
You won’t hear me say things like “stand here, tilt your head, smile nicely.”
Instead, I’ll guide you into moments — walking together, cuddling close, whispering silly things, playing games, or simply being near each other.
I’m always watching the light, the movement, and the tiny in‑between moments:
the hand squeeze, the burst of laughter
the way your child looks back at you while they run ahead.
That’s the good stuff.
Outdoors, indoors, somewhere in between
Some sessions take place outdoors, some in studio‑style spaces, and some feel a little like both.
What matters most isn’t where we are, it’s that there’s room to breathe, move, and be yourselves.
We choose locations that allow kids to be kids and families to relax into the moment, without pressure or perfection.
What if my kids don’t warm up straight away?
Totally normal. Some kids jump right in, others need time. I never rush it.
We move at their pace, chat about their favourite things, let them observe, and gently invite them in. Often the quiet ones give us the most beautiful moments once they feel safe.
And if all else fails? We lean into chaos and document it honestly. Those photos often end up being the favourites.
The goal isn’t perfection, it’s connection.
Years from now, I don’t want you looking at your photos thinking about who sat still or who smiled perfectly.
I want you to remember how it felt.
The season you were in. The laughter. The closeness. The beautifully imperfect magic of your family.
That’s what I photograph.
If this sounds like your kind of session, you’re in the right place 🤍
